Bridgetown.
Justice Jacqueline Cornelius yesterday strongly rebuked employers who send employees to check on their colleagues serving as jurors.
Speaking in the No. 4 Supreme Court, Justice Cornelius said she had noted a disturbing trend in respect prospective jurors.
"I want employers to understand that these citizens are not off on a frolic; they are not here as a matter of enjoyment. They are doing serious work. There is no necessity for employers to send other employees' to see whether persons are on jury duty", Justice Corneluis said.
She urged jurors to return to their respective places of employment once they were dismissed early by the court or if they were not empanelled on a matter.
Justice Cornelius said employers must be aware that serving on the jury was a civic duty of great importance a was a huge burden since jurors acted in judgement of their peers.
