The written judgment in the Shanique Myrie case will be handed down at 10 am on October 4th at the Caribbean Court of Justice headquarters in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago through a video conference.
The CCJ, headed by president, Sir Denys Byron and seven other presiding judges took evidence from 22 witnesses during the case filed on May 17th, 2012. They also had to peruse more than three thousand documents. The trial was undertaken in two CARICOM states, Jamaica and Barbados.
Twenty-five year-old Shanique Myrie took the case to the CCJ against Barbados for alleged inhumane, degrading and discriminatory treatment at Grantley Adams International Airport on March 14, 2011, on her first ever trip to the island.
The CCJ will rule on whether to award damages to Myrie and also examine whether to rule on procedures and systems which would substantially improve hassle-free travel within the region by CARICOM nationals.
