Georgetown- In the wake of a Magistrate's dismissal by the Judicial Service Commission, legal experts are furious, calling the Commission draconian. Yesterday Magistrate Omeyana Hamilton was fired from the job by way of a letter from acting Chancellor of the Judiciary Carl Singh. The young Magistrate was only sworn in two years now. Legal experts are telling TrakkerNews that for years the Judicial Service Commission has been using unconscionable methods to deal with members of the Judiciary. Magistrate Hamilton was sacked because she refused to travel by speedboat to Bartica to conduct court sessions. The Magistrate suffers from nausea whenever she travels by speedboat. One attorney said that her condition could be substantiated by a doctor's report and her move to seek damages in excess of $150,000 from the Commission can be awarded to her. During October 2004, former Chief Magistarate ,Juliet Holder-Allen had disciplinary charges instituted against her by the Judicial Services commission. She was subsequently sacked from the job. In 2009, Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond was sent on two weeks’ suspension after she left the jurisdiction, allegedly without permission.
