Region 10 : Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud led a team to Kwakwani, Region 10 which is affected by flood water and a steady rise in the Berbice River.
It is reported that more than 150 families are affected by flooding. Minister Persaud said,
the aim is to ensure that persons, particularly those in low-lying areas, to get assistance, humanitarian and otherwise as urgently as possible.
With regards to agriculture, he said that technical officers have already been deployed into the area to conduct assessment and within a week, supplies to assist farmers to get back into production will be sent in.
The Minister explained that the last time the river was swollen, Government through the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) had made investments to lift some of the landing areas to facilitate forestry activities, an intervention has remained intact.
