Georgetown : Education Minister Shaik Baksh and Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh criticised the Kaieteur News for its article published in its yesterday’s edition ‘Barber Shop Company gets $300M computer contracts’ in which it is implied that the process conducted by the national procurement board is anything less than transparent.
Minister Singh described the headline a ‘misrepresentation of the truth’.
He said that when one reads the headline and the story in question, one sees the use of language that is intended to misrepresent, distort and deviate from the truth.
“The story starts by naming the company, and continues by saying that the company was handed two government contracts”, this Minister said is a negative use of language.
He pointed out that the era when contracts were being “handed out” is long gone, as the contracts were publicly advertised for all to see, and more so the opening of the tenders was a public event that attracted the presence of the media and all bidders.
