Labour Minister concerned about work permits

British Virgin Islands: Dr. Kedrick Pickering, Minister of Labour, said he is concerned about the number of work permits that are being issued to a certain category of people from a particular country, a trend that will have social implications for the territory, according to a BVInews.com report.

The Minister whose comments were made at labour meeting held recently in Road Town, did not name the country or the category of workers, but described the situation as a “developing problem”.

The BVInews.com report said that the Minister stated, “We see a obvious problem developing where we are bringing in a category of workers from a particular country. Those things have serious social implications both short term and long term. Can we allow that situation to continue?”
