Labour Minister meets with union and TCL management

Port-of-Spain: Acting Prime Minister Labour Minister Errol McLeod has held seperate meetings with the management of Trinidad Cement Limited and the Oilfields Workers Trade Union as efforts continue to end the strike at the cement company.

The union and the company remain wide apart on the issue of wages, the union demanding a 16 percent wage increase and the company offering seven percent.

As he went in to talks this morning OWTU President Ancel Roget said the union was open to diaogue but was not prepared to accept seven percent.

Roget added that the union will meet again with the minister.

He says the union told the Minister that while it is flexible, TCL must also show a willingness to be flexibe in an effort to end the strike.

Today's discussions were at the Minister's request.
