Maracas: The North Coast Road remained closed to the public last night and this morning as the authorities continue to clear various landslides that pose dangers to motorists. This follows torrential rainfall over the weekend.
Police officers were stationed at the entrance of the North Coaat Road off Saddle Road last evening and all night preventing anyone from entering.
Around 3pm yesterday motorists experienced long delays on the Saddle road as the military moved heavy equipment into the area. They were accomapnied by the Search and Rescue Unit of the Fire Services and police officers.
The North Coast Road, which serves the communities of Maracas, Tyrico, La Fillette, Las Cuevas and Blanchissuese, has seen major land slippage since Sunday following a heavy downpour of rain.
There is one other access road to these communities that leads from Blanchissuese through Brasso Seco and into Arima but which takes a significantly longer period of time.
