Law firm says it was not involved in transaction with CLICO

Thompson & Associates disassociated itself from a multimillion-dollar transaction involving CLICO International Life (CIL) in January 2009.

A forensic audit by Deloitte of Canada has revealed that BD$3.3 million had been been funnelled throught Thompson $ Associates, the law firm of late Prime Minister David Thompson to Leroy Parris, former chairman of CIL and its parent company CLICO Holdings (Barbados) Limited.  

The law firm has released a statement on behalf on its attorneys Stephna Greenidge, Jessica Ashby, Amiri Dear, Gale Prescod and Darrin Downes indicating that they were not part of the any such transaction.

"The present complement of attorneys at law comprising Thompson & Associates were constituted on the 11th day of May 2010, mere months before the death of the late Prime Minister, the Honourable David Thompson, QC,MP. We therefore wish to make it clear to the public that the firm of Thompson & Associates which existed during the period prior to May 2010, is not that which exists today", the statement said.

The records of the Registry Department shows that the firm registered on January 1, 2005 was owned by David Thompson until May 22, 2008, four months after he became Prime Minister. One the day Thompson creased to be owner, associate Onika Stewart resigned from the company.

Two of the firm's current attorneys Gale Prescod and Amiri Dear were employed at Thompson & Associatesin January 2009.
