Lawmen on bail

Bridgetown.

Two policemen Donavan Price and Anthony Straker, appeared in the District "A" Magistrates Court on charges of indecently assaulting three female tourists and burglary  yesterday evening.

Price, 33, of Lower Carters Gap, Enterprise, Christ Church, is accused of indecently assaulting two of the women on December 7, while he is jointly charged with Straker, 27 a resident of South District, St George with indecently assaulting the third women.

They are also charged with stealing a television from Raja where the alleged assault took place.

While Prosecutor Station Sergeant Irvin Kellman did not objected to bail for the two officers, he insisted that substantial conditions be attached to any release, including bail in region of $30,000, the surrender of passports and that the accused be order to report to a police station at least twice weekly.

Defence attorney Angella Mitchell-Gittens, told the court that requiring the two officers to report to a police station was going a bit to far and that the bail suggested by Kellman was excessive.

Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant contended that is was not unusual for an accused be asked to report to a police station and Straker and Price would get no special favours.

Straker and Price were each released on $30,000 bail and must report to a police station every Tuesday and Friday before  9 a.m. They return to court on February 22.
