Laws outdated says former magistrate

Bridgetown.

Former Magistrate Faith Marshall-Harris is proposing changes to the minimum sentence that can be imposed by the courts on young people who have broken the law.

In an interveiw with Trakker News Marshall-Harris, said the legistation with deal with the sentencing of juvenile offenders is antiquated should be reformed.

Among the laws  that Marshall-Harris says should be changed are those that recommend whippings and sentencing to work on ships as possible punishment.

Marshall-Harris retired earlier this year as Magstrate in charge of the District A Juvenile Court, she was recently appointed as a legal consultant to the Goernment to review and harmonize laws that apply to families and youth.
