Leading union body plans hunger strike Saturday

Port-of-Spain: The National Trade Union Centre (NATUC) is hoping that thousands will participate in a planned hunger march scheduled for this Saturday.

Over the past two weeks natuc has been mobilising its membership for the march which begins at the Aranguez Savannah, three miles east of Port-of-Spain.

NATUC says it does not agree that current negotiations for public servants should be sent to the industrial court , insisting that the matter can be resolved through collecvtive bargaining.

Talks between the Public Servants Association (PSA) which represents tens of thousands of public servants broke down with the Chief Personnel Officer on Monday, with the PSA refusing to accept an offer of five percent over a three-year period.

The PSA is a member of NATUC.
