LIAT pilot, Keith Richard Allen was fined $250.000 by Magistrate Laurie Ann Smith in the District F Magistrates'Court yesterday for smuggling 65 pounds of cannabis into Barbados on November 23 last year.
Allen 34, of Arnos Vale, St Vincent, was arrested by members of the Drug Squad who found two packages of marijunana in his pilot's bag and another six packages in a pully he was carrying.
Magistrate Smith told Allen that his actions had open the door for suspiction of other pilots passing through the Grantley Adams International Airport.
Allen was fined $100,000 forthwith or five years in prison for trafficking and $75,000 fortwith on charges of importation and intent to supply with an alternative of four years' imprisonment.
