Linden: John Caesar, 35, of 227 East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme was remanded to prison on Wednesday for the murder of Linden businessman, Romel Edison Gomes.
Caesar made his first appearance before Magistrate Clyde Nurse in the Linden Magistrate’s Court, where he was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
It is alleged that on March 12, he inflicted injuries on Gomes at his Wismar Housing Scheme home, causing his death. He was also charged for disorderly behaviour in the said courtroom after the matter was called. This led to him being taken back to the prisoners’ holding cell. Caesar will return to Court on May 2.
On the day of Gomes’ murder, Caesar was reportedly one of two persons seen at the home of the dead man. In fact, the 32-year-old businessman was heard arguing with Caesar and another man prior to his death.
It was reported that during the argument, a loud explosion was heard and the suspects fled the scene in Gomes’ motor car – PVV 2057 – which was parked in front of his shop.
Gomes bloodied body was found with his hands bound in front of him and a bandana tied around his mouth.
He was found with a suspected gunshot injury to his right temple, a small laceration on top of his head and another lacerated wound to the neck.
A post-mortem examination later gave his cause of death as gunshot wound to the head.
His car was recovered intact at One Mile, Wismar, Linden the day after the murder was committed.
