Georgetown: The Miss World Guyana 2015 Beauty With a Purpose Campaign is moving apace as Lisa Punch continues to garner support to further her cause to bring awareness to Suicide.
At a recent meeting with Lisa Punch, Unicef has agreed to provide support to aid the Miss World-Guyana title-holder in furthering her cause in Guyana. The collaboration will help Lisa to spread awareness about Suicide to children and young people across the country.
UNICEF has also provided support to the last title-holder, Rafieya Husain for her Beauty with a Purpose Campaign, ‘Shatter the Silence,’ which was created to bring hope to persons affected by Domestic Violences.
“The issues of Teen Suicide and Domestic Violence are pervasive and UNICEF is working in Guyana to ensure that all children have the right to grow up safe and free from violence, so it was a great opportunity to be able to have these two charismatic young ladies share their experiences and their messages of hope with children and young people,” Unicef.
UNICEF has assisted in organizing visits to the Women Across Differences (WAD) —an organisation which supports and empowers teen mothers, and ensure that they complete their education and learn important life skills. The Georgetown School of Nursing was also identified, since young nurses may encounter these issues in both their work and personal lives. UNICEF has also facilitated visits to three Secondary schools in Region 5, at Bygeval, Fort Wellington and Rosignol, reaching approximately 1500 students in total.
Lisa Punch and Rayieya Husain recently concluded visits to the aforementioned schools. UNICEF said that “It was touching to see how Rafieya and Lisa connected with the students during each visit, and everyone was able to take away something positive from the experience.”
