Georgetown: A fire on Sunday engulfed the Lusignan prison facility on the East Coast of Demerara as the fire service and police try to contain inmates and the blaze.
Reports indicate that the prisoners started a protest early Sunday at the penitentiary after which the facility went up in flames.
Some three fire tenders are at the scene along with the Director of Prisons Gladwin Samuels.
