M.V. Sandaka which traverses the Rosignol – Amsterdam route goes down- AFC seriously concerned

Berbice : The Alliance for Change ( AFC)  has raised concerns that the M.V. Sandaka pontoon which traverses the Rosignol to New Amsterdam route has halted operations indefinitely.

The Sandaka which ferries school children, workers and the elderly from Rosignol to New Amsterdam on a daily basis is a preferred mode of transport because of its cost efficient nature. School children using this mode would pay $200 per month as contained in a contract arrangement with the transport and Harbours Department.

Using the speed boat mode, they would pay one $120 per day while the mini buses charge $ 400 per day.

According to the AFC, parents are very aggrieved with this situation by the fact that the Transport and Harbours Department is not providing them with any information as to when the services of the Sandaka would be resumed.

This situation is seriously compounded by the fact that pupils are currently sitting their end of year examinations.
