Machel Montano in court on assault charges

Port-of-Spain: Soca artiste Machel Montano today appeared before a Port-of-Spain magistrate to answer charges of assault just one day after being crowned the Road March champion of carnival.

The charges arose from an incident in April 2007 outside the Zen nightclub in the capital.

He is charged alongside entertainers Joel “Zan” Fezeck, Kernel Roberts, songwriter/producer and son of the late calypsonian Lord Kitchener and Rodney “Benjai” Le Blanc with assaulting Russell Pollonais.

Montano, Fezeck and Roberts are also charged with assaulting Brandis Brown and Montano is also to answer a charge of assaulting Jenelle Le Chee and Gerard Bowrin, as well as using obscene language.

Montano took the stand before magistrate Maureen Baboolal- Gafoor to testify under oath, about the events which transpired on April 26th, 2007.

He was questioned by his attorney Dana Seetahal and cross-examined by state prosecutor George Busby before the matter was adjourned.
