These plans were disclosed by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart in the feature address of the general meeting of the Caribbean Shipping Association at the Hilton Hotel yesrerday, Stuart said there are also plans for a central container examination facility intended to reduce the time of processing goods from nine days to three.
Stuart listed improvement of the award winning 50 year old port which over the years shifted focus from handing sugar to processing increasing numbers of containers and cruise passengers, pointing out that the fully computerized and automated operation handled more than one million tonnes of cargo and 745,175 passengers annually.
