Malaria conference set for Febuary 7th, 2013

Georgetown : The Health Ministry will be hosting a malaria conference which seeks to expand the National Conversation on malaria in Guyana and to readjust the Ministry’s response to emerging challenges in a rapidly changing environment.

The Conference  theme “Malaria and the National Agenda – Recalibrating Our Response: Emerging Challenges, Networking and New Initiatives” also aims at engaging longstanding and new partners in the national mobilisation effort against malaria in order to better garner and synchronise their support as stakeholders.

The conference will be held on February 7, 2013 at the Princess Hotel, Providence, East Bank Demerara.  It will firmly position malaria on the front burner of the National Agenda, and explore, among others, the Health Ministry’s structure and systems in place to fight the illness, achievements and new initiatives, new and emerging challenges globally and locally in the fight against the mosquito borne disease, the economic impact of malaria and stakeholders’ participation, support and initiatives.

Participants to be included in the conference are the PAHO/WHO, Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners’ Association, the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, the Forest Producers’ Association of Guyana, the Guyana Women Miners Association, the Ministries of Natural Resources and the Environment, Amerindian Affairs, Local Government and Regional Development and Education, the Guyana Defence Force, the National Toshaos Council, the Medical Council of Guyana, the University of Guyana, the Guyana Police Force and Media Practitioners.
