Port of Spain: The man who was charged with the attempted murder of British nationals Peter and Marium Greene in Tobago two years ago has been freed.
Senior Magistrate Annette McKenzie yesterday ruled that the case against 26 year old Clint Alexis be dismissed because the prosecution failed to present evidence against him.
The Greens were attacked in August 2009 at their Bacolet Gardens home in Tobago, Mr Alexis was held days after. The incident went on to make international headlines and sparked concerns about the country’s image.
The Greens were expected to appear in court yesterday however they instead provided the court with a medical certificate which stated that they were unable to travel to Tobago because of their traumatic state. While a request was made for them to give evidence via video conferencing from England Defence Attorney Larry Williams objected to the medical certificate and Police Prosecutor Sgt Dunstan Campbell said that the matter was out of his hands.
The prosecutor was then asked to call his first witness but was unable to do so. He offered no further evidence and the matter was dismissed.
While Mr Alexis is free of these charges he remains behind bars as he is currently serving a four year sentence for house breaking and larceny.
