Georgetown: Shaka Chase, 26 of East Ruimveldt was today charged with the murder of Police Corporal Romain Cleto as investigators launch a search for a second man.
Chase was not allowed to enter a plea to the indictable charge of murder when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry. He was remanded him to prison until May 23, 2013.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has noted that she intends to review all the evidence in the matter. He was represented by attorney Nigel Hughes.
Corporal Cleto was gunned down in April at the busy Regent Street and Avenue of the Republic intersection. Cleto and his colleagues in their 4×4 were not wearing their bulletproof vests when they attempted to confront the suspects in a suspicious car that they had been trailing before coming under attack.
