Vaughn McClean is critical condition at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) after being chopped several times by a family member.
Vaughn, 40, of Rose Hill, St Peter, was rushed to the QEH with one of his fingers almost severed, deep lacerations to his right calf and a wound to the face.
Residents of the area who found Vaughn groaning in pain and with blood flowing from his wounds, told the media they heard screams following by choppings sounds.
A male relative of the same address is also in custody assisting with investigations into the matter.
