Curtis Callender 35, of Rollins Road, Brittons Hill, St Michael, died around 12.15 p.m. yesterday at the Oistins Police Station.
Public Relations Officer of the Royal Barbados Police Force Inspector David Welch, said Callender was arrested yesterday morning in relation to the investigations of a number of serious criminal matters.
"It was when he was assisting with these investigations that he collapsed and died. He was pronounced dead by a doctor", Welch stated.
Callender's girlfriend and mother of his three sons Marsha Archer, told Trakker News she did believe the police version of his death because when she saw his body, his neck and mouth were swollen and he had bruises on his arm.
According to Archer, 12 lawmen came for Callender around 6 a.m. and searched his house in connection with a cellphone and he was handcuffed and taken away by the polce, he was in good health at the time, she said.
Inspector Welch said a senior police officer had been assigned to investigate Callender' death.
