Georgetown: The burnt remains of a business couple were discovered Tuesday night in what appears to be a murder/suicide following a fire at an Eccles, East Bank Demerara house.
Dead is Cindy Moses, 35, a business woman of lot 1139 Block EE Eccles, East Bank Demerara and Leeroy King Male, 34, a businessman of the same address.
Reports disclosed that around 19:15hrs Leeroy returned home and his reputed wife was observed opening the gate for him.
Shortly after one of the neighbours claimed that she heard screams coming from the house and what appeared to be loud explosion before seeing fire emulating from the upper flat of the north eastern side of the said building.
Both the Police and Fire Service were summoned and the fire was extinguished by the Fire Service after which ranks entered the home and observed the bodies of both persons lying on a bed in a bedroom on the north eastern side of the upper flat of the building.
The bodies were burnt beyond recognition and was subsequently escorted to the Lyken Funeral Parlor.
Anthony Moses who is Cindy’s brother said the news of the tragedy came to his family as a shock. The man explained that his sister was a very private person and did not reveal many details of her life to the rest of her family.
He stated that he and his sister normally meet on Sundays and she never gave him any indication that she may have been in any trouble.
King’s sister, Shelly, said she was scrolling on Facebook where saw the breaking news headline about the fire. However, she ignored the story and continued scrolling but it was at this point another brother informed what had happened.
“He has a big voice but he always gets you laughing. We don’t know him as an aggressive person,” a cousin told reporters.
When asked if the couple shared an abusive relationship, the cousin said the family had no knowledge of anything of the sort but noted that like every relationship there were quarrels.
