Man who confessed to killing pork knocker jailed

Georgetown: A 34 year old accused of killing a pork knocker was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment on Wednesday before Justice Navindra Singh at the Demerara High Court.

Jailed: Mark Creame

Mark Creame had confessed to killing 42-year-old Terrence Henry with a cutlass and he pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter. Creame admitted that on December 1, 2013, at 8 Miles in the North West District, he unlawfully killed Henry.

Justice Singh, before passing sentence, told Creame to stay away from alcohol since he was under the influence when he committed the crime.

The Judge urged Creame to use his time spent imprisoned to be rehabilitated. Justice Singh ordered that the prison authorities deduct the time the convict spent in pre-trial custody from the sentence.

Attorney-at-law Mark Conway, in his plea of mitigation, told the court Creame has been attending church service while imprisoned and also attended a tailoring course.

Reports note that Creame saw the Henry at 8 Miles in the North West District, where he was consuming alcohol and confronted him about a previous incident.

The court heard that Henry went to his hammock at a camp when Creame attacked him with a cutlass and chopped him to death.
