Georgetown: Police Thursday afternoon fished out a body of an unidentified man out of the Church Street Canal in the vicinity of the Merriman’s Play Park.
Police said children who were playing in the area spotted the corpse and alert others who summoned the police. The body was clothed in a grey and brown trousers, a gold-coloured shirt, footwear and gold-plated wrist watch and did not bore any visible marks of violence and was lying face-down when found. Police said that nothing was found on the body to indicate the identity of the man but noted that the body was seemingly ‘fresh’ because it did not start to decompose.
Investigators plan to access surveillance footage captured from a nearby residence. Police are checking missing person’s reports in an effort to identify the body which appears to be that of a male of mixed race descent in his late 30s.
