Georgetown : 30 bands are expected with the Costume and Float Parade come Monday February 23 when Guyanese will celebrate the country’s 45th Republic Anniversary- Mashramani. This years celebrations are under the theme “One People One Culture One Celebration.”
The parade will commence at Parade Ground, and traverse the streets of Georgetown and conclude at the National Park.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony said that the ministry is well prepared for the parade, while commending the Mash committee that has been making preparations since last year.
He added that numerous safety checks were made on the parade route as safety was assured by the Guyana Police Force, Guyana Fire Service and Guyana Power and Light (GPL) to ensure that all will be well-intact for the Mash bands to parade the route.
There will also be flag raising ceremonies in the 10 administrative regions to commemorate this year’s Republic Anniversary.
The minister said that there has been mixed support from the private sector, and called again for more involvement from this body. He also called on the City Hall administration, to resolve the issue of vending on the parade route, so that there will not be any confusion on Mash day.
