Georgetown: An array of blue colors filled the west side stand at the National Stadium as hundreds turned out to witness GT&T 10/10 cricket semis and finals which bowled off since 9 AM. yesterday. Behind the sounds of trumpets and crowd cheers, the national event was well supported as patrons won millions in prizes, credits and cash in the side attraction shows. While the Berbice female and male teams copped the first prize, the event was more than just a day to watch cricket. A family fun day and after cricket show into the night. The event was deemed a huge success by CEO of GT&T Yog Mahadeo.
Speaking to Trakkernews at a press conference today Mahadeo said GT&T' s campaign strategy leading up to the event can never be credited for yesterday's success without the company's subscribers. "This is the first time an initiative has been taken to go into communities and explore young talent giving people who have never been exposed a chance to showcase what they have at a national level", He added. The President and Minister of Sports Dr.Frank Anthony were on hand for start of the final match.
Mahadeo said he was delighted to see that the teams regardless of the hefty prize money, played as a team and represented their respective communities. There have been many calls for the company to continue this trend of family fun and excitement. GT&T's management vowed to bring bigger and better events at a national level in the future. But even with the huge success, an event of this magnitude some how or the other has a few incidents.
Trakkernews snapped the photo seen with the man being taken away by the police after he allegedly tried to grab another man's chain in full view of the crowd. In another part of the crowd a group of youngsters were busy soliciting bets of $50,000 and up for the final match. The police were alerted about the incident.
