Georgetown: The Officers and Councillors of the Mayor and City Council of the City (M&CC) of Georgetown met with Personnel of the Ministry of Communities led by Marlon Bristol the Local Resource Personnel, to discuss the Georgetown Municipal Development Plan. The Municipal Development Plan was developed by the Ministry of Communities and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
It is anticipated that the Municipal Development Plan would help to guide the work of the Council and assist the Municipality to realize short term and long term goals. The plan was established upon a survey of existing conditions and probable future trends. It encapsulates the many issues and concerns that have arisen in the Municipality
Three main stakeholders were engaged; Officers, Councillors Private Sector and Civic groups they were required to rank the priorities of the Georgetown Municipality.
An analysis of the Questionnaires reveled that priorities for the Georgetown Municipality from the perspective of the policy makers are: human resources, with emphasis on recruitment and retention, the need for specific powers, authority and autonomy to be given to the Municipality.
The second most important issue for the City’s bureaucrats is the Green Initiatives. The Georgetown Municipality launched its Green Expo and Conference in 2015. The Council plans that this event will be annual.
Other articulated priorities included capacity building for Councillors and Officers, financial planning, the creation of a corporate Business model and physical economic development.
