Medical workers officially suspended

San Fernando: Five doctors and four nurses from the San Fernando General Hospital are now officially on suspension following the death of 29-year-old Crystal Ramsoomair, a mother of three who bled to death after a C-Section operation and the delivery of a healthy baby girl.

The letters of suspension were originally due to be handed out on Monday but the South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) is now investigating why its Chief Executive Officer Paula Chester Cumberbatch failed to follow through on the instruction.

Chairman of the SWRHA Dr Lackram Bodoe confirmed that the nine medical personnel who have been suspended collected their letters at midday today.

Dr Bodoe said a three-member independent investigating committee will begin its investigations shortly.

The names of the investigating team members have not been made public. A report from the investigating team is expected two weeks from today.
