Mentally challenged man pleads guilty to Murder of neighbor

Dead:, Bhumattie Delall

Georgetown: A mentally-challenged man pleaded guilty to the murder of his neighbour in the New Amsterdam High Court on Monday.

Jainarine Balgobin, 40, of Belvedere Corentyne is accused of killing Bhumatie Delall, 53, also known as ‘Mommy Goal’ of Lot 351 Squatting Area, Belvedere, Corentyne, Berbice on November 02, 2016.

The Justice JoAnn Barlow has ordered a probation report which will be presented in court on July 31 before sentencing.

Reports are that Balgobin went into Deolall’s yard armed with a cutlass, he had taken from the alter of a mandir located next to his house, and dealt her several chops to her neck, almost severing it.

He then calmly walked out of the yard and crossed the street and returned the cutlass to the Mandir. He was subsequently apprehended by the Police at his home.

The cane harvester, who also does odd labour jobs, is said to be of an ‘unsound mind’ and reportedly told investigators, who interviewed him, that ‘his master sent him to kill Deolall.’

During the five days he was in police custody on many occasions, while being alone in the cell, Balgobin was heard speaking to himself; sometimes in different languages.

It had been reported that Balgobin has a history of physically abusing his mother and on most occasions, the now dead Delall would go over to make peace.
