Mikey (Michael Mercer) made a clean sweep of the Soca Royale competition last night winning the Sweet Soca title with "We Loose and retaining the Party Monarch crown with "No Behaveya".
Several of the island's top soca artistes were vying for the titles and prizes but it was the exciting performances of Mikey that won the judges vote, his prizes includes two Kia Rios cars and $17,000.
Lil Rick was second in both competitions with "Ah Like Myself and "Drop It " stormed off the stage when MC Mac fingall announced that Mikey won the Party Monarch competition, shaking hands only with acting CEO of the National Cultural Foundation(NCF) John Clarke. The popular singer won $34,000 in prize money
Red Plastic Bag and Edwin Yearwood were third in the Sweet Soca and Party Monarch competitions respectively.
The rain did not stop thousands of fans from descending on Busy Park the ventue for the competitions, they were given a display of talent and splendour by the artistes.
According to Public Relations Officer of the Royal Barbados Police Force, Inspector David Welch no major incidents were reported to the police.
"The crowd behaviour has been quite good, I have not heard about any fights so far, the only incident reported was that on a woman who received superfical burns on her hands and face form a gas burner", Welch told Trakker News.
