Georgetown : Guyana’s Millennium Development Goals’ progress report which is a key instrument of assessing socio-economic policies and which will influence Government’s processes, decision-making and resource mobilisation efforts was launched yesterday at the Guyana International Conference Centre, Liliendaal.
Prime Minister Samuel Hinds said that while the key findings of the document will be used as a means to enlighten and intensify development discussions, it will pave the way for policy makers to determine how much progress is required for Guyana to meet the goals by 2015.
A copy of the report was also handed over to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative to Guyana, Carlos Castillo by Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh and Minister within the Ministry of Finance, Jennifer Webster.
Mr. Castillo in delivering brief remarks said that while the Millennium Declaration was signed 11 years prior, the MDGs have become the main international development framework which have inspired actions by world leaders, civil society, faith based groups, private sector and ordinary citizens.
The UNDP Representative stated that reports such as the MDG progress document are critical instruments towards the implementation of the MDGs policy formulation and successful programmes.
