Berbice: Horse race owners will vie for over $3m in cash today when the Bush Lot United Turf Club hosts a one day horserace meet at the club’s facility, Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice from 1:00pm.
Seven races are carded for the day with over 75 horses expected to face the track.
According to the club Secretary, Arjune Singh, four of the races have been re-organized with the feature event now being for horses classified ‘E’ and ‘F’ and Lower and the prize money increased to $450,000 and trophy over 1,600m.
The ‘H’ Class race will now be for horses classified ‘G’ and ‘H’ and Lower and the first prize has jumped to $300,000 in the 16,00m contest. The ‘I3’ maiden event is now for ‘I’ and Lower animals which will now be a 1,200m affair and has a winning purse of $100,000, while the ‘J’ class event is now for ‘J’ and ‘K’ and Lower horses competing for the $90,000 and trophy over 1,000m.
An ‘L’ class event has been added to the day’s programme and will see the animals running over 1,000m for the $80,000 first prize and trophy.
Other races on the day include three-year-old for animals born and bred in Guyana and the West Indies over 1,400m with the winnings set at $150,000, while the race for group one horses has a winning purse of $60,000 and trophy and will be a 1,000m affair.
