Georgetown: The gold and diamond mining locations in Guyana's interior are targets for armed and dangerous thieves who are out for blood and loot. This is the concern of members in the mining sector. While some have beefed up security at their sites in the interior, there is the question of trust among employers and workers. Recent attacks at mining camps in the interior resulted in bloodshed, the latest being the brutal slaying of a father and son. It is believed that these attacks resulted from leaks in the camp whenever there is a major find. Now the owners run the risk of being targets since trusting their employees is a serious issue. There is little the police can do, since the locations are difficult to traverse. The miners are now task with employing private security for their own safety.
