Georgetown: Weeks after gas prices increased to $1000 dollars per gallon at most pumps, minibus operators continue their call for a fare hike. They are calling on Minister of Commerce, Maniram Prashad to live up to his promise. The Minister went on record saying that once gas prices reached $1000 Government will intervene and assess the fares. However to date nothing has been done prompting minibus operators to strengthen their call for an increase in fares. Just yesterday the route 42 minibus operators plying Georgetown to Timehri turned off their engines demanding better fares. This left many stranded at the city bus parks and along the route. The Minister promised to meet with the operators but did not say whether the fares will be increased.
