Georgetown : Minister of Transport and Hydraulics Robeson Benn and a high level team comprising Chief River and Sea Defence Officer, Geoffrey Vaughn along with other officials from the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority were on site and reported that 100 homes have been affected along with the NCN Berbice compound and the New Amsterdam Technical Institute.
The residents there were under water since Tuesday last when sea defence in the Fort Canje area collapsed under the pressure of the high tides
Minister Benn also apologized for the discomfort that is being experienced by those affected and has assured them that his team is working around the clock to have the situation restored to normalcy.
“Unfortunately, the area which they had restored collapsed again, this area was eroded over a period of time with vessels passing. The highest tide Wednesday afternoon is now receding, but we expect similar problems today (Friday), Minister Benn said.
The residents have been affected with approximately 12 to 18 inches of water in some places.
