Minister discharged from hospital

Port-of-Spain: Local Government Minister Chandresh Sharma was discharged from hospital this afternoon and says he will be back out to work on Monday.

Minister Sharma was released from the hospital just after 2 o'clock and was taken straight to his home, where he was reunited with loved ones and well wishers.

The minister said he was grateful to the nation for its support and kind thoughts.

The minister, who is also the MP for Fyzabad, was full of praise for the treatment he received at the hospital, commending all doctors led by Dr Colin Furlonge and the nurses for their care. Her was also thankful to his parliamentary colleague Donna Cox for assisting him moments after the accident occured.

Minister Sharma and his driver Anton Mitchell were taken to hospital following a vehicular crash along the Lady Young Road in Morvant on Wednesday afteroon.  

It is believed his driver attempted to overtake a line of vehicles, when he slammed into an oncoming car. The Prado reportedly flipped several times before overturning. The minister suffered a laceration to his left forehead, soft tissue injury to his neck and ankles and a sprained right ankle.
