Georgetown : The Honourable Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guyana will receive from the Government of Chile the “Order of Bernardo O'Higgins”(Orden de Bernardo O'Higgins) in the rank of “Grand Cross” for the significant contribution which she has made to the strengthening of relations between Guyana and Chile.
Mr. Yesu Persaud, Honorary Consul of Chile to Guyana will also be bestowed with the Medal Bernardo O´Higgins in the rank of “Comendador”, as an appreciation for his support and relentless efforts to enrich the bilateral relation between Guyana and Chile.
The Order of Bernardo O'Higgins is the highest civilian honour awarded to non-Chilean citizens. This award was established in 1965 and named after one of the founders of the Chilean state general, Bernardo O'Higgins, who was the leader of the struggle for independence of the Spanish colonies in the Americas from 1810 to 1826.
The Awards will be presented by His Excellency Luis Fernando Ayala Gonzalez, Ambassador of Chile to Guyana immediately after his accreditation which is due to take place tomorrow at the Office of the President.
