Georgetown : Home affairs minister Clement Rohee led the first crime walk throughout the streets of Georgetown yesterday under the theme “Towards a safer Guyana”.
The event was supported by the Inter-America Development Bank (IDB) and the private sector commission (PSC).
Rohee said, “Citizens security requires all being involved, it is good to see so many people participating in this march, the numbers are important but the numbers are quite equal as the message that there are people who are committed to fighting crime,”
The Citizens Security Programme is a five-year undertaking to improve citizen security and public order in Guyana. It commenced in August 2007 through a US$22M fund provided in part by a loan from the IDB.
PSC Chairman Ramseh Dookho called for intense collaboration between the private sector and the Police Force, disclosing that a proposal is in the making outlining the private sector’s plan in this regard.
