Minister Rohee meets with East Coast drivers on road safety

East Coast Demerara : Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee and officials from the Home Affairs ministry and the National Road Safety Council (NRSC met with East Coast drivers at the Lusignan Community Centre to listen to their suggestions on how to improve road safety in the area.

An East Coast road safety steering committee was subsequently established.

The steering committee will work with the NRSC in carrying out all the road safety activities on the East Coast.

Among the suggestions by drivers were the establishment of bus stops to facilitate the easy disembarkment and embarkment of passengers, a standard dress code for drivers and conductors to distinguish them from other commuters and the monitoring of rum shops for potential drunk drivers.

Concerns were also raised about stray animals especially during the night and young cyclists improperly using the roads.cilitated countrywide.
