The modification effected on the Supenaam Stelling located on the Western Bank of the Essequibo River, by the Ministry of Public Works has failed, temporarily putting the service out of operation again.
It appears that the more $60M spent to remedy the defects may have gone to waste.
On Thursday last, scores of vehicles destined for Parika were left stalled at the damaged stelling, as the critical piece of infrastructure again failed.
Caribbean Trakker understands that several hours after the steel beam below the ramp buckled, the very company that had been under fire for works undertaken at the stelling had to be called in to effect emergency repairs.
BK International had undertaken the initial works prior to the Ministry’s intervention and has now been called out once again.
Engineers and personnel are currently at the stelling looking to effects the repairs.
Officials at the time could not give an estimate for the repairs but the price tag attached to getting the stelling up and running continues to escalate.
