Georgetown: President David Granger was, today, paid a courtesy call by Miss Guyana World 2015, Lisa Punch at the Ministry of the Presidency. Punch will be heading to China next month to compete in the 65th edition of the Miss World Pageant, to be held on December 19.
The singer, turned beauty queen, has chosen to tackle the issue of suicide prevention as part of her “Beauty with a Purpose” project. The campaign, Prevention of Teenage Suicide (POTS) Guyana, was officially launched in September.
POTS aims to raise awareness on the issue of suicide among Guyanese and to empower them to inculcate coping mechanisms to deal with the problems they may encounter.
This is being done through a collaborative effort between the Ministries of Health and Education and corporate Guyana. Punch is looking forward to working with interested stakeholders to establish a suicide crisis centre to provide support for young people.
In July, Punch released a new single entitled “Staying Alive”, the theme song of her POTS campaign.
