Georgetown: The Brickdam lockup is not run by the police but rather by prisoners who have money and power. This is the view of a credible source who had first hand experience of the alarming things that happened in there, while he was incarcerated overnight recently, following a misunderstanding. TrakkerNews was told that police officers are paid reasonable sums to allow things like drugs, cellphones and even knives into the lockup. Those who are incarcerated for drug possession, money laundering and gun running are the ones that command respect among prisoners and police officers. Even behind bars, they continue to conduct their business on the outside with the use of cellphones. Those with power gets special treatment from the common inmates who would do anything for a cigarette or drugs. The knives, the source explained, is used for protection against a gang attack. He said that the night duty police officers for the right price would often turn a blind eye to all that happens behind bars and would often be the ones to slip the items to prisoners, concealed in food and clothing. These acts continue even with recent rehabilitation to better secure the facility and the implementation of surveillance cameras.
