Port-of-Spain: Soca Monarch Machel Montano has sounded a warning that he will defend his crown at next year's Soca Monarch Competition.
Montano won this year's $2 million first prize with the song, "Advantage".
Addressing the awards ceremony in Port-of-Spain, Montano says a clause in the contract with the promoters, Caribbean Prestige Foundation means that he must defend his crown.
This year's competition was in some instances bitter with ridicule and picong being thrown around by entertainers, but Culture Minister Winston Peters wants the hackets buried, telling the entertainers in the audience to be mindful that they are ambassadors of Trinidad and Tobago.
Kes Dieffenthaller, the Groovy Soca Monarch with "Wotless", said that despite the tough competition, the fans ensured his victory.
