More should be done for a safer Nevis – ACP Liburd

St. Kitts Nevis: The St. Kitts Nevis Observer reported that speaking at the first formal gathering of 2012 for his division, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Robert Liburd, told officers of the Nevis Division that more should be done to ensure that Nevis is a safe place to live and visit.

The ACP referred to an online article which declared St. Kitts and Nevis the second most dangerous place to travel to in the Caribbean, behind Jamaica, which was the most dangerous place to travel to and ahead of Trinidad which was labelled the third most dangerous place to travel to.

“Our tourist product can be in trouble with this…We have to do more within our communities to make it safer and to give people the assurance that they can come…2011 has left us with a record we have never seen before. It left a very long trail of blood. As much as the records show that, homicide was just 2% of the overall crime. It is something that has left us wondering. It shows we have a violent society,” the ACP said.

The report said that he told the officers they have a busy schedule ahead and the New Year would not be easy as they need to accomplish a lot.
