More training for joint services ranks, Home Affairs Ministry staff

Ministry of Home AffairsGeorgetown: Another batch of officers from the joint services is currently undergoing training programmes, both locally and overseas, while some have completed.

The Home Affairs Ministry in a release stated that Senior Superintendent of Police Maxine Graham, Assistant Superintendents Nathalie Barnwell, Lorraine Saul, and Audrey Small, and Research Officer from the Home Affairs Ministry, Sarita Mohanlall attended the Women in Law Enforcement Leadership Training Programme from August 19-23 in Lima, Peru.

This programme was designed to lay the foundation for the development of effective law enforcement leaders from a female perspective.

Meanwhile, Constables Komal Pitama and Roumayne Dunn attended the Enhanced Constables Development Course from August 6-30 in Barbados. The aim of the course was to develop and maintain the required ethical conduct among candidates, in keeping with the principles of their respective organisations.

Additionally, Sergeants Shellon Daniels and Phillip Sheriff attended a Court Prosecutors’ Course in Barbados, designed to enlightened participants on the fundamental principles of prosecution.

The Sub-Regional International Passenger Interdiction Training Course to be held in Kingston, Jamaica from September 24-27 will be attended by Corporal Mahendra Thuknauth and Assistant Superintendent Anthony Vanderhyden.

This course will provide participants with the fundamental skills necessary to identify and intercept high risk passengers in the airport environment. It will also include passenger analysis; baggage examination techniques; identification of fraudulent documents; interviewing techniques; and evidence collection and preservation.

From the Guyana Fire Service (GFS), Cadet Officer Haimchand Persaud attended the Chemical Emergency Planning Training Course in July in Jamaica. This training was aimed at discussing and preparing a regional chemical emergency response plan. It also allowed discussions of the procedures within the region and the way forward to create a regional strategic response to chemical incidents

At the Home Affairs Ministry, Head of the Task Force on Narcotic Drugs and Illicit Weapons, Michael Atherly attended the Multilateral Evaluation Mechanism (MEM) Governmental Expert Group (GEG) of the Preparatory Session for the Sixth Evaluation Round of the Inter – American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) in August in Miami, Florida.

Chairman of the Guyana Gaming Authority, Manniram Prashad attended the Sixth Latin American Gaming Authority Regulators Meeting from August 12-13 in Lima, Peru. The purpose of the meeting was for regulators and State-run lotteries to be duly informed of the constant changes and rapid advances in the industry.
