ST JOHN’S, Antigua : Three men are hospitalised with possible head injuries following two separate traffic accidents involving motorcycles yesterday.
The first accident occurred around 10:35 am on Liberta’s main road, involving a purple and white Yamaha motorcycle, owned and ridden by 34-year-old Christopher Eastwood of Potters, and a silver Daihatsu Terios motor jeep A27450, driven by 23-year-old Jamal Pelle of John Hughes.
The rider lost control of his motorcycle and ran into the rear of the jeep.
The motorcycle driver, who was not wearing a helmet, is reported to have suffered facial and head injuries and was rushed to Mount St John’s Medical Center by an EMS vehicle. The motorcycle was extensively damaged.
While the police were carrying out their investigations into this accident, the driver of a Blue Nissan Condor truck C9654, owned and driven by Craig Constant of Pares, attempted to force its way past the accident, and in so doing, collided with the Terios motor jeep and dislodged its front bumper, causing further damage to the left fender. No one was injured.
The second accident took place around 11:30 am at the junction of Herberts Main Road and All Saints Road. It involved a dark blue Dodge Dakota pickup truck C10151, owned and driven by 61-year-old Zulrone Stephens of Liberta, and a maroon Yamaha motorcycle, ridden by 19-year-old Donald Telemaque of Cooks Extension with a passenger, 18-year-old Clenmore Warner of the same address.
It is alleged that both the pickup and the motorcycle were travelling from east to west on All Saints Road.
The motorcycle attempted to overtake the pickup as it was making a right turn onto the Herberts Main Road, and as a result collided with the right rear end of the truck.
Both riders on the motorcycle suffered facial injuries and complained of head pain. They were taken to Mount St John’s Medical Center by EMS.
Investigations into both accidents are ongoing.
