MP praised

Bridgetown.

Outgoing Member of Parliament for St Michael South East Hamilton Lashley, was yesterday praised by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart  for his contribution to the development  poor and marginalised communities in Barbados.

Speaking at a church service which  launched  a week of activies in Lashley's honour, the Prime Minister said his legacy would stand up to any scrutiny as one who placed people first at all times.

"He entered politics not to see what he could be but what he could do, and he aways took up a position on behalf of the voiceless, the poor, the marginalized communities and non governmental based organizations . When the time comes for researchers to evaluate his contribution, they will have no difficulty in determining what he stood for because consistently, insistently and persistently he put the cause of the poor and marginalized in Barbados first", Stuart said.

"There are many politicians who entered public life and left it and to this day nobody knows what they stood for, that can never be said about Hamilton Lashley', he added.

The retiring MP said he was humbled by the outpouring of love and support from his constituents and colleagues.

"I feel very humbled that the people remember. Its shows that the people in the community appreciate what has been done and what has not been done", Lashley said.

The church service which was held at the Church of the Nazarene, Collymore Rock, St Michael was attended by officials of both political parties
